Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

At Hard Beat Communications, we're proud to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultural heritage, contributions, and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

Established by Congress in 1992, this month-long celebration holds special significance, coinciding with significant milestones in Asian American history, including the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants and the completion of the transcontinental railroad, which was built with the labor of Chinese workers.

Expanding from Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week since 1978, this month-long observance highlights the diverse and vibrant communities that make up the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population in the United States. In 2021, the celebration was further expanded to include Native Hawaiians, recognizing their unique cultural heritage and contributions.

As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, let's take a moment to reflect on some key facts and figures about the Asian American population in the United States according to the US Census:

24.7 million: The estimated number of Asian alone-or-in-combination residents in the United States in 2022.

5.5 million: The estimated number of people of Chinese descent in the United States in 2022, making it the largest Asian group, followed by Asian Indian, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese populations.

2.5%: The percentage of the Asian population in 2022 who were military veterans.

56.1%: The percentage of the Asian population age 25 and older who had a bachelor’s degree or higher level of education in 2022.

88.9%: The percentage of the Asian population age 25 and older who had at least a high school diploma or equivalency in 2022.

642,950: The estimated number of Asian-owned firms with paid employees in the United States in 2021.

These statistics, compiled from the invaluable responses to the U.S. Census Bureau surveys, provide insights into the demographic, educational, and economic landscape of the Asian American population in the United States.

As we commemorate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, let's celebrate the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the AAPI community, and continue to work towards building a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
